L-Glutamine is a supplement that assists in leaky gut repair, sugar balance (and cigarette cravings). L-Glutamine helps me in many ways, but for cravings, I find taking Chromium throughout the day is much better for crushing and diminishing cravings so I don’t even get into the craving mode. You can take both, but if I were only to take one, I would just take this Chromium because I find, when I take chromium, I don’t get to the crazy part where I have to use Glutamine under my tongue. The chromium I take can be found here, and for the record, I only use it in the first 5-10 days of quitting.
L-Glutamine is great to have on hand as in “Emergency Use Only.” With Glutamine you are really addressing acute sugar (cigarette) cravings and it does help, but I prefer the first defense: Chromium.
L-Glutamine comes in tablet and powder form but since the tablets are huge, I take the powder form. Glutamine really helps with nicotine cravings in the first few days of cessation. Just place a little glutamine powder on your tongue and you can actually feel the craving go away.
Glutamine also assists the body make glutathione (the master detoxifier) and is also used to repair “leaky gut” which is when your stomach lining gets little holes in it that allowing food and bacteria to leak into your bloodstream. The signs that you may have leaky gut are varied. It can be caused by taking too much aspirin or drinking too much alcohol. When glutamine is taken for leaky gut, it should be taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before a meal. The powder is better than the pills because you get and more, and the pills are huge and can be difficult to swallow.
Glutamine plays a role in skin repair and collagen production by boosting the production of fibroblast cells. It also helps muscles repair after an intense workout and keep sugar levels in your body balanced (which is how it helps cigarette cravings). For me, I always keep glutamine powder on hand but don’t take it regularly, mostly to help with cravings in the first 10 days of quitting or I can’t stop eating, as appetite control and it’s also great for muscle recovery.
Again it doesn’t work as well for me for preventing nicotine cravings as chromium does, but it does help if you get a persistent craving that won’t go away.
You can take over 4000mg per day without issue.
